Omeka Digital Scholarship

Omeka Digital Scholarship hosts projects created by students and faculty for research and teaching. These projects engage with library materials as well as personal materials to engage in new ways of learning. Projects here feature such techniques as:

Visualizations

Tools such as mapping and timelines help visualize events, concepts, and connections.

See a working example with professor Elena McGrath's faculty site, Mapping the History of Mexico.

Media-Rich Essays

Explore new ways of publishing acadmic work beyond the traditional term paper.

View an example with the site, The Story of Union's Chinese Stone Lion.

Digital Scholarship at Union College

Schaffer Library partners with faculty, students, information technology, and other units on campus to support digital scholarship. Digital scholars employ computational tools and methods to extend knowledge production, dissemination, and preservation, while also uncovering technology’s limitations, biases, and misuses. The Digital Scholarship Initiatives (DSi) team can help students and faculty incorporate digital methods into research and teaching. We use a variety of platforms, such as Omeka and SketchFab, to provide students and faculty ways to explore materials, build their own collections, and contribute their scholarship. We host an institutional repository to openly share products of student work at the college, including theses, posters, and presentations.
