Sunsetting projects
Projects created in partnership with Schaffer Library adhere to a digital lifecycle. This lifecycle includes:
- Planning - including understanding the project and the best software tools available, functionality to meet goals, and scoping appropriately to ensure success. At this phase, creators will review and sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that articulates project parameters and timelines.
- Production - working to create the online project and any interactivity needed.
- Dissemination - making the project live online, providing links within the classroom and beyond.
- Disposition - when the project is completed, the work will be sunsetted based on the terms in the MOU.
- Preservation - for selected projects based on the terms in the MOU, preservation steps will commence. This step is only for projects identified in advance for this step.
Throughout this site, when you see the sunsetting symbol, you will know this website represents a site that has been sunsetted. Sunsetting may include:
- Closing any interactive elements of the site, such as comments or uploading.
- Removing outdated user accounts.
- Creating a "snapshot" or version of the site that may keep selections of content and reduce functionality.
- Ceasing of additional maintenance beyond basic support.
