Title
-
New "Natural Areas" on Mount Monadnock
-
Description
-
After nearly a century of regulated timber harvest, the Forest Society decided to declare 2,786 acres as "Natural Areas", rendering them safe from all human intervention (besides hiking trails and their management of them). This decision was made as the understanding of the importance of old-growth forests became apparent, and the Forest Society wanted to protect the State Park from future roads and timber harvest, while hoping to create an ecosystem that would be unobstructed.
